Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are the time commitments for a Debutante?
The South Brevard Debutante Program is a 15-month program in which the Debutantes participate in a variety of events, seminars, and gatherings to prepare them for a future as community leaders. The Program culminates with the traditional Debutante Ball. Most of the events take place during the Debutante's senior year of high school.
The schedule for these events is posted at the beginning of the Program to prevent schedule conflicts for our busy Debutantes.
2. Are the Debutante events mandatory?
We realize that our Debutantes have active and demanding schedules. Their success has been driven by their commitment to their education and community, which has brought them to the attention of this program. That is why we schedule and post the event dates months in advance. As with other important dates in her senior year, each debutante is expected to place the few mandatory dates on her calendar and work her other activities around those dates. The Program-sponsored seminars are mandatory, however, the individual Debutante charity parties are voluntary. Yet, like with any program, one gets out of it what one puts into it. The South Brevard Debutante Program experience is like none other - exceptional young women doing exceptional things - Don't miss out!
3. Are there costs involved with being a Debutante?
The honor of being selected as a South Brevard Debutante is one that comes as a direct result of the efforts of our young women. Our Program has evolved from the "Presentation of the Young Woman to Society", to the "Cultivation of Future Leaders Through Tradition.” Each participant is selected on merit. Selection is made based on the young woman's individual accomplishments - outstanding achievements, strong commitment, and exceptional character.
The South Brevard Debutante Assembly Committee is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. The program is funded by the Debutante Program Fee. There is a payment plan in place to make the program affordable for the participants.
In addition to the Program Fee, the Debutante will incur the cost of her Debutante gown and accessories, the possible need for family apparel for the Ball, and the expenses associated with her Debutante Charity Party. Of course, due to her choices, these additional expenses will vary from girl to girl.
4. Giving Back to the Community
A portion of the Program benefits Serene Harbor, a Certified Domestic Violence Shelter in Brevard County. Debutantes will be eligible to receive volunteer hours (including Bright Futures) for their time and efforts in the Program.
